ABOUT THE SESSION

We would love for you to join us online for our Master Class – ‘The 2030 Agenda & Climate Change’ by Professor Stephanie Lackner . 

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has made Climate Action one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, but addressing climate change is actually highly relevant for most of the SDGs. This masterclass will summarize the science of climate change and discuss climate impacts at local and global levels. We will talk about the relationship between climate and society, what the economic impacts of climate change are, including on agriculture, health, energy, and migration, and how they impact the achievement of other SDGs. Finally, the class will discuss the current state of climate action, which was the topic of the most recent UN summit in September 2019.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Stephanie Lackner is an Assistant Professor in Economics at the IE Business School and the School of Global and Public Affairs at IE University. Her research revolves around natural hazards, the socioeconomic impacts of natural disasters, including climate impacts, and geospatial data analysis. She was previously a postdoc at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University and has a PhD in Sustainable Development from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs as well as an MSc in Mathematics from the Vienna University of Technology.
