African Solutions, Global Challenges: The Role of the Diaspora

Join us for the London edition of the IE Africa Center's African Solutions, Global Challenges flagship event focusing on the role of the African diaspora in shaping the continent's future. 

About this Event

What is the role and value-add of the African diaspora when it comes to building the continent's future? Can Africans in the diaspora build unicorns on the continent? And how are they contributing to forging a new narrative for the continent and its peoples?

On March 4th 2020 in partnership with the SOAS University of London, the Royal African Society, the African Foundation for Development (AFFORD), and the MIT Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship, the IE Africa Center will be hosting the fourth edition of its flagship event, African Solutions, Global Challenges in London, entitled “The Role of the Diaspora". Delivered through a series of TED talk style presentations, this event will focus on the ways in which African executives and entrepreneurs in the diaspora are shaping the continent’s economic and cultural future through investment, technology and art.

About the Partners 

IE University’s Africa Center's goal is to shine a light on African solutions to global challenges.

Founded in 1965, the Centre of African Studies at SOAS - University of London is the largest centre of expertise on Africa outside Africa. Since 1991 the Centre has assumed formal responsibility for coordinating and stimulating interdisciplinary study, research and discussion on Africa within SOAS, promoting a wider awareness of African issues within the university and beyond.

The African Foundation for Development (AFFORD) is an international organisation established in 1994, with a mission “to expand and enhance the contributions Africans in the diaspora make to African development”. AFFORD’s innovative approach mobilises the financial, intellectual, and political assets of the African diaspora and channels them to drive economic growth and social development in Africa. We also enhance the capacity of actual and potential investors and actively influence international policies to ensure that they address the real needs and root causes of underdevelopment and poverty on the continent.
