World Economic Outlook and the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Several years after the "Great Recession" the global economy was recovering, although at different speeds in different parts of the world. When it seemed that growth was consolidating in most regions some trends increased uncertainty worldwide. The questioning of Free Trade as a critical element in economic growth and development, which constituted a fundamental basis of globalization in recent decades, and Brexit, were two important elements contributing to this uncertainty. And then the COVID-19 pandemic arrived and produced a dramatic shock to the World’s economy. This Master Class will present the recent and current state of the economy in several regions and countries, the latest forecasts on GDP growth, and will discuss the potential future implications of the changes that we are witnessing at the global environment.
