Masterclass: The Geopolitical rivalry of the USA & China and its impact on the region

There is a growing confrontation between China and the USA in different battle fronts: commercial, financial, monetary, technological, reputational and military, and it’s impacting the entire world.

"The New Silk Road", embodied by the BRI (“Belt and Road Initiative”) is a trillion dollar “wallet-based diplomacy”, the strategy designed by the Chinese government to make China the hegemonic power on Earth by the year 2050, displacing the United States from its current position of leadership.

Historically speaking, “the Silk Road” has been the oldest and most emblematic international trade route in the world. A physical communication network linking the East and the West by land and sea since 2,600 year ago.  We will describe its origins, rise, decline at the end of the Middle Age as well as it’s revitalization in the 21st century.

You’ll get valuable insights from IE University professor Fernando Cortiñas. A polyglot, he has an MBA from Harvard and since 1992 he has been a Professor at the IE Business School.

Fernando has over 35 years’ international work experience in leading multinationals and as a professor in renowned academic institutions in Europe and America. He developed a very international career, mainly in the telecom (Telefonica) and consulting (McKinsey) Industries. He also occupied managerial positions in industrial companies in Argentina, Germany and Spain.
