Anyone can start a business, but can you SCALE it?

One of the biggest trends in Entrepreneurship education in recent years is the recognition that we have been talking too much about startups and not enough about scale-ups. If you stay small, then you are at greater risk of survival. One or two pieces of bad luck and you could go under. The answer is to scale-up or grow to a size where you can get away from daily acts of heroism and create a sustainable business.

Tools such as the Lean Startup and the Business Model Generator have made a great contribution to increasing the startup survival rate, but what we are seeing is that the next phase, the scale-up phase, requires a different approach. Research published in The Economist on December 10th 2016 said that "Fewer than 4% of startups have ten or more employees after their first decade" and that the reasons lie not with a shortage of Venture Capital or Technical skills but that "what firms most need are management skills".

In this online webinar you will be taken through the latest insights that we know about in the following areas:

1. Market - Do you really know who your customer is? Perhaps the biggest avoidable mistake is not to increase your Marketing investment until you can target it to where it will be most effective.

2. Execution - Scaling up is fundamentally a question of logistics. Operations Management has studied areas such as the trade-off between cost and time for many years and has answers to many of the scale up issues that founder CEOs face.

3. Culture - This should be your biggest selling point to attract and retain the kind of talent you will need to go beyond the scale-up phase. Yet many founders remain suspicious of such a fuzzy topic.

IE Business School has been a pioneer in this scale-up area, first launching an Executive Education program specifically for scale-ups in 2011.The sixth edition of the Owners Scale-Up Program will take place in Madrid from May 6th-9th 2019 and again from October 14th-18th 2019 with five online sessions in between.
