The legal sector is undergoing a true revolution due to technology. LegalTech and new players focused on legal technologies are disrupting the industry in different and innovative ways, providing powerful opportunities for law firms and corporations as well as for private and public institutions. 

This IE Law School Alumni Panel is a live interactive debate with some of our most brilliant alumni in Brazil, designed to explore trends and opportunities within the Brazilian law industry. Join us and meet some of the people that are leading the path in international, entrepreneurial and tech-based law practices in the country. 

 

ABOUT THE MODERATOR 

Prof. Newton M. Campos, PhD (Brazil)

Dr. Campos is the Country Director of IE University and IE Law School in Brazil, Academic Director of FGVcepe - Private Equity and Venture Capital Research Center at FGV EAESP (São Paulo, Brazil), Professor of Entrepreneurship at FGV EAESP, Visiting Professor at IE Business School (Spain) and ITA Technological Institute of Aeronautics, and Founder  of Sóliph Entrepreneurship and Educational Services Ltd, a company that invests in Search Funds in Latin America and Africa. He has been the leader of Guinea-Bissau Entrepreneurship Development Program financed by the World Bank and is the author of the book “The Myth of The Idea and the Upsidedown Startup (2nd edition, 2020)". 

 

Rodrigo Menezes

Founding partner at Derraik & Menezes law firm, focused on national and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and private equity transactions. He has represented clients in very significant M&A and venture capital deals involving Brazilian and foreign companies and funds in a wide variety of industries, including internet, cosmetics, e-commerce, consumer, healthcare, technology, telecom, energy and general industries.

Rodrigo is also visiting Professor in several universities such as FGV – Fundação Getúlio Vargas and INSPER, teaching legal aspects of venture capital and private equity investments for the graduation and post-graduation degrees. He is also panelist in several conferences and seminars discussing the legal aspects of venture capital and private equity investments.

He is author and contributor of several articles, the most recent being: Multijurisdictional Guide 2012 - Venture Capital Chapter for Brazil, published by Practical Law Company (the “PLC Handbook”).

He holds a Master in Corporate Law from IE Law School.

Lucas Mayall

Is the partner responsible for civil litigation and arbitration at Maneira Advogados. He has been involved in legal and arbitration disputes of great repercussion in Brazil and abroad, especially in disputes involving telecommunications, corporate law, construction and collective demands. He is a professor in the Postgraduate Course in Arbitration at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC Rio). Member of the OAB / RJ arbitration committee.

He has also published relevant articles at Editora Forense, MAYALL, Lucas, Relações de Consumo, Contratos de Adesão e Arbitragem. In A Reforma da Lei de Arbitragem. Editora Forense, 2016.

He holds a Master in Legal Tech from the IE Law School.

LLipe Guimarães Freitas

Is a former judged of the Administrative Tax Court of the State of São Paulo - TIT/SP and ex-founding partner of an important law firm in São Paulo when he was in charge of the tax area. He also was a professor of tax law in the Instituto Brasileiro de Estudos Tributários - IBET and the GV Law.

Currently he has been working at IE in the Corporate Development area of the Law School and as Associate Director of the Master in Legal Tech

He holds a Master Academic Degree in PUC/SP and a Dual Master Degree in IE (International MBA and Master in International Business Law).
