In his 1930 essay, Economic Possibilities for Our Grandchildren. the British Economist John Maynard Keynes predicted that technological progress would allow people in his grandchildren's time to meet their material needs working just 15 hours a week, freeing them for leisure and culture.
While Keynes prediction that by 2030, the “economic problem” would be solved hasn't fully materialised his vision of more free time came partly true. But not through a drastic cut in market work hours but due to changing demands for consumption and more complex work.
Join Professor Joe Haslam for an IE Masterclass on the changing nature of work where he will take you through the ideas of authors such as Rutger Bregman, Arthur Brooks, Chip Conley, Scott Galloway, Bill Gurley on what the workplace might look like in just four years time.
Professor Joe Haslam is the Executive Director of the Owners Scaleup Program at IE Business School in Spain. This is a program specially designed for small and medium sized companies that want to develop an exponential business model to scale. He is also the Academic Director of the Global Scaleup Program.
He teaches an award-winning elective in the International MBA, in the Master in Management (MIM), Global MBA, Executive MBA & IE Brown MBA as well as several online programs for IE Executive Education.
In 1998, Prof Haslam was on the founding Team of Marrakech, a Dublin based e-procurement company that raised over seventy-five million dollars in Venture Capital and scaled to over two hundred and fifty people. He was the co-founder and Chairman of Hot Hotels, the first company from Spain to be accelerated by the Techstars program in the USA (Boston, Summer 2015). Joe was born in Ireland, and he has an MBA from IE Business School and has completed an Executive Education Program on Emerging Technologies at UC Berkeley College of Engineering.
