Impact of Digital Economy in the International Tax World

After the 2008 crisis, the G20 and the OECD concluded that the technology world and the new virtual business models were avoiding significant taxation worldwide based on the legal framework of the old-fashioned, bilateral tax treaty network. Governments reacted with a significant battery of new rules to make this planning more difficult, although in the end, the digital economy world is still winning the war by moving tax residence and working with complex intangibles, amongst other strategies.

Today, even after a small fall in the technology sector, new developments such as the crypto world, Meta, and AI make this international tax challenge even more complicated and unpredictable.

This is probably the dawn of a separate set of tax rules for digital businesses which is something unprecedented and difficult to coordinate internationally.

Join us next June 15, at 6:00pm (Madrid time) for an online session with IE Professor Pablo Alarcón Espinosa, expert in the field of taxation. Learn more about this fascinating subject from one of the professors in the International Taxation specialization within IE University’s Master of Laws.
