The State of the Art Market with María Sancho-Arroyo
Join us for an exclusive Master Class hosted by the IE School of Humanities, featuring María Sancho-Arroyo
Following the post-pandemic surge of 2021–2022, the art market experienced a slowdown in 2023, a trend that persisted into 2024. As 2025 approaches, the central question is whether the market will rebound or stabilize at current levels. While uncertainty remains, increased confidence among buyers and sellers suggests that a further downturn is unlikely.
This session will examine key factors influencing market dynamics, including the impact of U.S. economic policies, potential tax cuts, and ongoing concerns over tariffs. It will also explore broader structural trends, such as the continued strength of blue-chip artists, the rise of emerging talent, and the shifting roles of galleries and fairs. Additionally, the growing integration of financial mechanisms—such as fractional ownership and art-backed lending—will be analyzed in the context of their implications for collectors, investors, and institutions.
