SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP AT THE BASE OF THE PYRAMID

The event will commence with a short introduction to IE Business School and continue with a Masterclass on the topic of Social Entrepreneurship at the Base of the Pyramid: Business Solutions for the World’s Poorest given by Professor Waya Quiviger.

Despite global attempts to eradicate poverty, over 4 billion people still lack access to basic resources and services, such as potable water, basic health services, and primary and secondary education. Until these services are more evenly distributed, our world will always be plagued by injustice and inequality. The global community must thus work harder to address the needs at the Base of the Pyramid, the poorest segment of the world’s population, often excluded by markets, banks and multinationals. This session will discuss and explore how social entrepreneurs find innovative solutions for the world’s 4 billion most underprivileged people.

About the Speaker

Waya Quiviger first joined IE Business School as Managing Director of the International MBA program. From 2009 to 2018, she was the Executive Director of the Master in International Relations. Waya Quiviger holds an M.Sc. in Politics of the World Economy from the London School of Economics (LSE), a Master in International Management from the Ecole Des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) and a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University (CA).

Prior to joining IE, Waya worked for the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland as Manager of the Global Leaders for Tomorrow (GLTs), a community of outstanding young leaders, many of them social entrepreneurs. She has also consulted for the Women’s Forum and the Club de Madrid. Ms. Quiviger teaches Global Governance & International Organizations and Aid, Development and Social Entrepreneurship in the Bachelor in International Relations and in the Master in International Relations.
